Next Time: What I will do differently when I bake for another wedding.

I had a great time baking for Emma and Daniel’s wedding!  As with any new experience, you find out what parts of your process are working fine and don’t need to be altered at all, and you discover some things that you can definitely improve upon.   Thankfully everything went off without a hitch.  However, there were a few things that I know I could have done better.  Here are the most important things I learned from round one of wedding baking.

Next time, I will allow myself even more time to set up than I think I need.  I was able to get everything put together before the reception officially started, but I didn’t get to do as good of a job as I would have liked to.  Example: I stacked the two tiers of the cake at the reception and knew that I would need to add the bead border once they were stacked, but I was pressed for time and I did not do as good of a job on the border as I would have liked to.  Up close, I thought it looked sloppy and I know I could have done better work than that. 

Next time, I will try and see the location of the event before I am arriving to set up.  Once I got to the location, we had to switch out the table that they had planned on putting the cupcake tower on for one that was a little larger and more sturdy.  If I can’t see it beforehand, I will stress the importance of having the cake in a location with a pretty backdrop so that the pictures of it are as pretty as the couple deserves them to be.

Next time, I will bring business cards with me.  I finally had some made up and I have not been good about handing them out.  I know that a big reason for not handing them out left and right has to do with my low level of confidence and I need to get over that.  I have had lots of people tell me several times that they love everything I make, and I like it too!  I guess I’m just afraid to take that leap and pt myself out there.  So, next time, I will remember this:
